How the unscrambler works

Three quick steps between a messy rack and your best possible play.

⌨️

1 · Enter your letters

Type up to 15 letters in any order. Got a blank tile? Add a question mark and we'll test it as every letter of the alphabet.

2 · We dejumble

Our solver checks your letters against a dictionary of over 111,000 English words — instantly, right in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.

🏆

3 · Pick your play

Results arrive grouped by length with Scrabble or Words With Friends scores on every word. Tap any word to copy it.

Tips to win more word games

A few habits that separate casual players from rack-clearing champions.

🔤

Learn the two-letter words

Short words like QI, ZA, XI and JO turn dead racks into points and open up parallel plays. There are only about a hundred — flashcard them.

🧲

Hunt for hooks

A hook is one letter that transforms an existing word — LUSH into BLUSH, HOST into GHOST. Scan the board for words one letter away from something bigger.

⚖️

Balance your rack

Aim to keep a healthy vowel–consonant mix after every play. Dumping a clunky Q or a third U often beats a slightly higher-scoring move.

💎

Save S and blanks for bingos

Playing all seven tiles earns a 50-point bonus. An S or a blank is often the key that unlocks one — don't spend them on small change.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you might wonder before your next move.

What is DejumbleWord?
DejumbleWord is a free word unscrambler. Give it any set of letters and it finds every word that can be made from them, complete with game scores. Use it for Scrabble, Words With Friends, Wordscapes, Text Twist, anagram puzzles, or the daily jumble in your newspaper.
How do blank tiles work?
Type a question mark (?) for each blank tile, up to two. The solver treats each one as a wildcard that can stand in for any letter. Letters played as blanks score zero points, and the scores shown reflect that.
Which dictionary do you use?
We use a general English dictionary of more than 111,000 words. It overlaps heavily with popular game dictionaries, but every game has its own official list — so double-check unusual words against the rules of the game you're playing.
Is using an unscrambler cheating?
That's between you and your opponent! Many players use tools like this to practice, to learn new words after a game, or to settle friendly disputes. In competitive play, check your league's rules.
Is DejumbleWord really free?
Yes — completely free, no sign-up, no limits. The solver runs entirely in your browser, so it's fast and your letters never leave your device.
